Being A Scholarship Hunter

Mehehehehe... Jadi, mari berbagi tentang ups and downs of being a scholarship hunter :D.

Nothing is easy to the unwilling.

Salah satu modal utama jadi pemburu beasiswa: jangan malas. Mau usaha. Just a reminder, we live in an internet era, where the world is just one click away. Google udah jadi kata kerja lho sekarang. Anyway, salah satu cara, ikut milis. Satu milis beasiswa yang saya ikut nih: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/beasiswa. Anyone here on twitter? In those sites, a complete package of information is available for you. Masih bingung dengan yang tercantum disana? They have the FAQ page. Still can’t find the answer for your question? Jangan malu (apalagi gengsi) untuk menghubungi mereka, by e-mail or by phone. Just a little note, kalau ingin menghubungi mereka, make sure tat you ask a particular question.
Be exact.

Udah sukses nyari info, jangan keder duluan liat persyaratannya.

Beberapa persyaratan lain mungkin terlihat agak serem. Misalnya saja, bikin research proposal. Hey, like most of the other things in this world, seringkali yang bikin susah itu adalah memulainya. So pull yourself together, and start doing it. It’s often get easier once you have started. Believe me.

If you really want it, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find a reason.

Keep in mind that no great achievement comes easily.

You might find some difficulties in the application process. You can choose just to quit and walk away. But you also always have a choice to face it, to find a way, to look for help. People will think no less of you when you’re asking for help. And you can always pray for God for some help and enlightment.
Beberapa form beasiswa memang terlihat rumit (saya nyaris mabok waktu liat form ADS terbaru yang sampe 25 halaman lebih). Kalo memang gak niat, ya udah, gak usah diisi. Tapi kalo memang niat, take a closer and more careful look at it. It might not as complicated as when you had your first glance at it. And it often helpful if you discuss about it with others.

But as I said before, it’s not that difficult. Eh, ngeklik tombol send aja saya baca Bsimillah berkali-kali lho. Mhuahahaha...  Sebagian memang tidak merespon. Tapi banyak yang merespon balik :). See? It’s always worth a try. Don’t make it at the first attempt? Then give it another try. Again. And again.
People that Matters
Speaking in a personal opinion, bagi saya sukses tidaknya kita mengirim aplikasi beasiswa seringkali dibantu oleh banyak orang. Me myself as an example. I am so lucky to have these people as my friends. These people who once were also awarded a scholarship usually eager to share their experience :).

Once again, I feel so grateful that my supervisor when I was writing my thesis is like, one of the most wonderful people on earth. Udah pinter (banget-banget), baik hati, ganteng pula. Karena biasanya they will happily do it. Mereka rata-rata seneng kok kalo liat kita semangat pengen sekolah lagi ^_^ (hey, me myself is a lecturer, dan saya selalu ikut semangat kalo denger ada mahasiswa saya yang pengen sekolah lagi).
Kalo ADS kemaren sih nggak ada format baku (I called ADS Office to make sure about it).

Ada kok saat-saat dimana deadline aplikasi semakin mendekat, and we feel like we’re not going to make it. That’s when family and friends come to rescue :D. Some of the people I know are scholarship awardee. And talking with these people about their experience always become some kind of mood-booster for me and keep my spirit on fire.

If you fall, pick yourself off from the floor.  Get up.
Gagal sekali bukan berarti selamanya. Why should we complain about one single failure when God gives us the opportunity to try again 10 more times?
Temen saya ada dulu mencoba 4 kali sebelum akhirnya dapet beasiswa ADS. Another friend of mine, who is now in ANU, juga pernah gagal sebelum akhirnya keterima.
Iya, seringkali gagal itu terasa menyakitkan. But it shouldn’t stop us from getting up and try again. And this is another thingthat we should learn from other who have succeeded.

God is there. Watching. Listening. Granting.

Usaha tanpa doa itu kesombongan semata. Dan saya selalu yakin, Tuhan itu baik. Maha Baik. Dia selalu denger kok doa kita apa.

This is where I end my posting for this time. Ayo berjuang bersama! In the next posting, saya mau cerita soal pengalaman saya dengan salah satu program beasiswa :)

Ami, over and out!

These Are My Hobbies. What Are Yours?

Dulu, waktu sekolah S2, saya pernah mengajak temen-temen ke Festival Indonesia. It was on the week-end. So, where’s our destination for next week-end? I like to plan things to do on week-end, so I will have something to be excited about...”. Simple thing sih memang. Tapi sampe sekarang, saya semacam menyetujui kalimat Lu ini.

It is nice to have something that we are looking forward to and be excited about.

Some people get drowned in their routines. Do the same things everyday. See the same things. Meet the same people. Life is nothing but time that goes by so slow. And really, for me, this is where having a hobby comes in handy. It gives you a reason to be excited about.

I mean, if you don’t have anything to be called as your hobby, then what do you usually do to have some fun? A hobby is not something bad. It’s just something that you enjoy to do. That’s it, as simple as that.

I dwell my self in fiction when reality does not seem to make sense anymore. I read to keep my sanity. I read to keep my mind wide open. I read to be inspired.

To be very honest, I tend to judge people from what they read.

Being a reader, it’s easy to be happy. Just to know that a good book is waiting for me at home to be read already make a good reason for me to be happy.
Tapi toh, suka baca juga punya satu sisi negatif: duit saya habisnya cuma buat beli buku doang. Lately, I tend to buy books without knowing when I will have the chance to finish them. Sekarang aja, di kamar saya masih ada lebih dari 10 buah buku still in their plastic wrap.

Some people prefer to watch movies instead of reading books. And there’s nothing wrong with it. I have some favorite movies. Movies that amazed me. Lord of the Rings, for example. And of course, Life is Beautiful. Still, I prefer books. As what I have read in a book, “A movie shows you what to think about. A book lets you choose how to think of it.” But hey, movie is also another thing that we can enjoy and be excited about.

Another thing that I also enjoy is music. But one thing for sure, music easily expresses a lot of feelings and emotions. Mhuahahahaha.... *galau detected*. Enggak sih, I’m not just talking tentang lagu cinta yang menye-menye atau yang so-sweet-abis atau lagu-lagu edisi-gagal-move-on *backsong: The Man Who Can’t Be Moved by The Script*. One thing that I love about music, it inspires. Banyak lagu yang bisa menjadi penyemangat saya. Lagu-lagu yang akan saya puter bolak-balik kenceng-kenceng just to remind me that I really got a reason, that hardwoks will be paid off. Waktu mau tes GRE kemaren, saya bolak-balik nyetel The Fighter by Gym Class Heroes.
It's gonna take a couple right hooks, a few left jabs. For you to recognize that you really ain't got it bad (The Fighter - Gym Class Heroes)
I would be, like,...”Oh, reallyyyy? Bet you’re having a miserable life, then...”.

Kenapa? One of the main reasons is, it gives you something to be excited about. It keeps you hanging on through some harsh times in life. Doing your hobby let you have the chance to enjoy something, to believe that life is not that bad. Often, doing our hobby is like giving ourselves a treat. Saya sering kok kalo lagi kesel dengan kerjaan, bakal menjanjikan sesuatu pada diri sendiri. Something like: “Okay. Once I’m done with this... gua bakal ngabisin novel itu!”. Simpel sih, tapi tetep, menjadi salah satu penyemangat bagi saya.

Next, at least for me, hobby can inspire. Mulai dari that famous quotes from Coelho’s The Alchemist.
It's the possibility of having a dream come true that makes life interesting.
And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.
Bahkan juga dari buku-buku lainnya, banyak quotes yang bikin saya mikir, quotes that touched me.
If my life is going to mean anything, I have to live it myself(From Percy Jackson  & The Lightning Thief)
So many things are possible just as long as you don't know they're impossible.(From the Phantom Tollbooth)
People see what they wish to see. And in most cases, what they are told that they see.(From The Night Circus)

Talking about hobby, there is another thing that I find enjoyable. Football! Nope, not playing it. But watching the game. Being a fan of the players and the team.

Really, it really gives you something to wait for, something to be excited about. Euforia World Cup itu bener-bener tidak tertandingi. And don’t forget another world-class event: EURO!!! Mhuahahaha....and the-heavenly-gorgeously-good-looking-men of Spanish National Team menjadi legenda for being the consecutive winner of EURO 2008 – World Cup 2010 – EURO 2012. *ikon lope-lope berhamburan di udara*.
After 44 years, they won EURO 2008...
...and the next two years, they were the winner of World Cup 2010...
...AND  in 2012, they won EURO 2012! three consecutive winnings in a row. Spain National Team is a legend

Jangankan World Cup, beberapa liga saja udah bikin excited banget. Okay, for the girls and ladies, those adorable handsome and good looking players are among legit reasons to watch the game.
Not only being good on the field, they also look good. And yes, I do realize that most of the players I put here are Spanish. Just can't help it. They have this thing for being handsome or cute or  or hot or...anything.. you name it.

But it’s more than that. It’s about the community, the togetherness, the pride in battle. The anxious feelings that you have when you are hoping, wishing and praying that your favourite team win the match, and your favourite player scores a goal *or at least, helps the goal with an awesome assist*. You, secretly or openly hopes that the other teams that have been a long-life rival of your favorite team lost the game.

In one way or another, I find the fans chant are also another interesting side of football. The way they cheer the team, or the other way around, boo-ing the other team. Oh, how I really wish that someday I would ever have the chance to watch a game at the Etihad Stadium, or Stamford Bridge, or Santiago Bernabeu. I bet that it would be very exciting to be part of them.

Baby’s Day Out, misalnya, for Heaven’s sake, mungkin si bayi dalam film itu sekarang udah lulus S2!!!*

Oh well, we tend to keep on talking about something that we like, we never seems to be out of words to discuss about our hobby. So I guess that’s a reason for this long rambling of mine in this posting. Anyway, what’s your hobby? Hopefully you enjoy it, and it helps you to keep on being happy and stay positive :).

Cheers, people =) !

Just a little note, kalau ingin menghubungi mereka, make sure tat you ask a particular question.
Be exact.
